no retreat no surrender was BAD ASS!
never back down is alriiiight. its like a modern day karate kid vs fight club type of thing. coincidentally, i believe they say that on the box? i dont think its plausible how fast he learned his submissions tho, but its cool cause he gets two montages. entertaining fo sho, but i say that about every movie.

yeah, but no offense...karate is...well...karate. god i hope nightmare doesnt read this. some karate is legit if they have like full contact sparring, but most dont. and, if u ask me, all the traditional stuff like katas get in the way and become useless. katas were japans version of shadowboxing. it was to work up a sweat while practicing unrealistic moves. the best things about karate, in my opinion, is that it is good discipline for children and can make your timing good. im not unbiased in saying this tho, so dont get me wrong. ive practiced karate with many different instructors. and, im not trying to sound f***ing sweet when i say this, but theres something wrong when anyone off the street can come in and hang with all the black belt dan this dan that instructors. ive practiced many different arts, but the only ones i would put stock in are boxing, muay thai, wrestling, judo, and jui jitsu. there are a few others, but i recognize these personally. however, if i had children, as soon as they could walk i would ship em off to karate or tai kwon do or whatever was available until they were big enough where i think they could handle full contact stuuuuuff.

what about Bruce Lee's matrial arts...when you consider it, it was kinda mma

it was in fact mma. bruce said to take what u think is useful and throw the other shit away. he was one of the pioneers of mma. thats why u would often see him wrestling or boxing people as well. he knew what was effective. however, bruce lees art, jeet kune do, wasnt really an art. it is more of a philosophy. in fact, many of its practitioners are offended when u call it an art. because, its like calling mma and art.

i guess, but that seems like a fine line indeed. he instructed people in it and it was mixed w/ other fighting styles(philosiphys?), so maybe no artistic elements, which are more like dance, that you see in other forms...maybe its a definition issue. im lazy, so im not going to look up the definition of martial arts, but anyway it seems like spliting hairs to me.

well, people still teach mma classes dont they? but its many arts rolled into one set of instructions. so i would say when bruce taught jeet kune do, he taught many arts to people. also, earlier jeet kune do (and some current) still incorporate a base of gung fu. so, there is still some traditional chinese in there because he had to start people somewhere and he was new to it as well.
